Candle Safety Tips

Candles, when used correctly, provide soft, flickering light that can enhance the ambiance of any room. However, it's essential to remember that while candles can be beautiful and calming, they can also be dangerous if not handled with care.

In this blog, we will discuss essential candle safety tips to help you enjoy the soothing glow of our candles.

Trim the Wick

Before lighting your candle, trim the wick to around 5mm.  A shorter wick helps prevent excessive smoke and uneven burning. If the wick is too long, it can also cause the candle to flicker and produce more soot.

Keep Candles Away from Flammable Objects

Always place candles on a stable, heat-resistant surface, away from flammable materials such as curtains, tablecloths, or paper. Make sure there are no drafts in the area, as this can cause candles to flicker and potentially start a fire.

Never Leave Burning Candles Unattended

One of the most crucial safety rules is never to leave a burning candle unattended. If you need to leave the room or go to sleep, extinguish all candles. You can always relight them when you return.

Extinguish Candles Safely

Use a candle snuffer to extinguish candles. Avoid blowing on the flame as this can cause hot wax to splash. Ensure that the wick is entirely extinguished and that there's no smoldering before leaving the area.

Keep Candles out of Reach of Children and Pets

Children and pets are naturally curious, and a burning candle can be a source of fascination. Keep candles out of their reach and explain the dangers of playing with fire.

Store Candles Properly

Store unused candles in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. This will prevent them from warping or melting prematurely.

Be Mindful of Candle Size and Burn Time

Larger candles can burn for extended periods, so be mindful of the burn time and your schedule. If you plan to leave the candle burning for a while, make sure it's in a safe location and follow all safety guidelines.

Candles can add warmth and charm to your home, but it's crucial to prioritize safety when using them. By following these candle safety tips, you can enjoy the cozy ambiance they provide while reducing the risk of accidents. Remember, it only takes a moment of carelessness for a candle-related incident to occur, so always exercise caution when using candles in your home.
